History

Four time Monterey Historics winner. Rolex award, and Choppard winner too.

Completely legal car. The engine has been challenged and “pumped” on three different occasions by tech and was found to be completely legitimate each time. The engine currently has one race weekend on its most recent Jim Grubb rebuild. The stock, original matching numbers, engine comes with the car on a stand.

The Corvette has all the correct GM modifications for the era. Dick Guldstrand assisted with the suspension modifications to make the car handle and make it a period-correct race car. The original GM Corvette big brakes have been recreated. The shocks are Koni.

The Corvette has never been in a collision in its 34 year race history. It still has its original paint from when it was restored for vintage racing in 1982. The car has no pre-1982 racing history, but does come with three log books of racing history since 1982.

Race history: Vintage raced since 1983. Working on the third Log Book. Accepted to the Monterey Historics and Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion twenty-seven times. First place finishes in 1987, 1996, 1997 and 2008. In all races entered, always finished in the top five. Has raced at Laguna Seca, Sonoma, Willow Springs, Riverside, Del Mar, Palm Springs and Coronado. Best lap at Laguna Seca 1:48.86.

Description

Engine specifications: a correct 283 ci bored to 292 ci.-- making 380 hp at 6,500 rpm. Totally race prepared by Jim Gubbs in Santa Clarita. The engine was gone through in 2015, and has only one race weekend on it. The carburetor is a Carter AFB style by Edelbrock.

Suspension: Totally period correct for 1959. Heavy duty springs front and rear, with Koni shocks. The corners have been scale balanced.

Body: Painted in 1982. Since the 1982 restoration, the Corvette has never been repainted, except for the front-end between the headlights in 2000 to remove chip damage. The car has never been involved in a racing incident.

Brakes: The brakes are reproductions of the "big brake" package offered by GM, i.e. drilled backing plates with air scoops, and 2 1/2" front drums and 2" rears.

Other info: The car comes with two posi-traction rear ends, 4:11 and 4:56. It comes with two sets of wheels. As mentioned, the original, matching numbers, engine is included in the sale.

The car has a close ratio transmission currently in the car and a second, wide-ratio, transmission that comes with the car. There are 2 1/2 sets of wheels and tires.

The Corvette is freshly prepped to race this season. I has one race weekend on new engine and clutch; newly rebuilt 4:11 differential, new brakes and wheel cylinders. Application for the 2017 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion has already been submitted.

This is one of the winningest straight axle, C2 Corvettes in the country.
