HISTORIC RACING

Art has been racing historic cars for over 15 years, driving production racing cars such as Jaguar E-Types; Porsche 356’s; Austin Healey and more. He has also cut his teeth with Formula Cars, ranging from Formula Ford to Formula One, racing marques such as Cooper, Lola, Ralt, Brabham, March, Titan, and Chevron. He has recently begun his next field of racing; historic endurance prototype cars, such as those that ran at Le Mans and the 24 Hours of Daytona. A respected presence on the historic racing circuit and a frequent winner on the track, Art has proven himself a key member of the vintage racing community. His passion for racing, decades of racing experience and distinguished racing record have established him as a respected resource and partner for vintage race car collectors across the country and around the world.

Art and the Motorsports Market team currently race Jaguar E Types as members of the Donovan Motorsports Jaguar Vintage Racing Team, Titan Mk. 6 Formula Fords (often with Geir Ramleth’s ‘Geirheads Racing Team’), and a 1999 Martini Picchio SR2.

CSRG Charity Challenge Vintage Car Road Races [10/4 – 6, 2019] @ Sonoma Raceway

First place in the Crossflow Cup Championship race on Saturday, first place in the CSRG Charity Challenge Formula Ford feature on Sunday, plus a Historic Formula Ford track record in the yellow Titan driven by Art Hebert.

Lime Rock Labor Day Historics 2019

August 29th – September 2nd 2019 ; The Historic Festival 37 Labor Day Weekend at Lime Rock Park (Lakeville, CT) with the Donovan Motorsports Jaguars.

Art finished third in Saturday’s race, behind Jack in the #61 E type and a 1964 Corvette. However, we got under one minute lap times, for the first time ever in Jaguar E-type #63!

In the second race we got beat by the 1964 Corvette and the 1973 Camaro. We had a great start, but the Camaro, gridded behind, reeled and passed long before we got to turn one. After that Art could catch the Camaro and the Corvette, but didn’t have the power to stay with them on the straightaways. A great race, nonetheless. Jack did an excellent job, bringing the #61 jaguar home first!

Monterey Motorsports Reunion 2019

August 15-18, 2019 ; Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at WeatherTec Raceway, Laguna Seca

We raced with Geirheads Racing (Geir Ramleth). We ran our 1970 Titan Mk.6 Formula Ford with the team, Mikel Miller raced the orange 1970 Titan Mk.6 Formula Ford, Geir drove his 1967 Lotus 51 Formula Ford, Mike Wirrick drove his 1972 Lola T204. Tom Fallon and John Collins of Throttle Therapy Garage prepared the cars.

We finished 7th place overall (5th in class) out of 56 entrants. Mikel finished 1st overall. Mike Wirrick finshed 15th. Geir did an amazing job to finish 23rd driving the oldest Formula Ford in the race!

Sonoma Speed Festival 2019

Representing Motorsports Market, Art attended the 2019 Sonoma Speed Festival this June, sharing a 1999 Martini Picchio SR2 with fellow driver Andrew Wait. A 3.0 liter sports racer, the Picchio previously raced in the FIA sanctioned Sports Racing World Cup Championship in Europe in 1999 and 2000 at tracks such as Spa, The Nurburgring, Monza, Imola, and Donnington. Supported by Competition Touring Cars (“CTC”) out of Sonoma – headed by Brian Garzelli and with help from Ron, Taylor, and Andrew – the team qualified in 3rd, an impressive spot behind and ahead of much more powerful cars. However, in an unfortunate turn of events the left front axle broke at the end of qualifying, and they were not able to compete.

Historic Formula Ford Racing Record (2019 … 2017)

April 28, 2019 – David Love Memorial (Sonoma)
17 year old Gunnar Hebert ran a flawless, perfectly judged weekend, his first at Sonoma, his first in a Formula Ford and his first race after a stellar performance at the SCCA driver’s school.

March 31, 2019  – 2019 Laguna Season opener
Group 2 qualifying saw Art Hebert on the historic and overall pole, .2 sec head of John Hill, followed by Andrew Wait, Martin Lauber, Chris Porritt, Dave Zurlinden, Todd Strong, Danny Baker, Ed Lauber, Laurent Parmantier all separated by less than a second.

2018 – The Historic Formula Ford Championship podium was headed by Series Champion Art Hebert, followed by Martin Lauber and Andrew Wait (presented by racing Legend Lynn St James).

September 21, 2018 – The Crossflow Cup (Portland) round 4, at the Columbia River Classic hosted by SOVREN. In the end the Historic Ford Podium saw Art Hebert in P1, followed by Tom Kreger, and Andrew Wait.

Formula Atlantic – March

Motorsports Market began racing the March 79B – F1 driver Derek Daly’s pro Formula Atlantic car for 1979 – in 2011. The car was run by Fred Opert Racing, who also ran factory supported team cars for Keke Rosberg and other F1 drivers. The March is one of the last flat bottom Formula Atlantic cars built, and is highly competitive in the historic Formula Atlantic series. The 1,100 lb. monocoque chassis is powered by a 1600 c.c., 240 h.p. Cosworth BDD with a Hewland FT-200, five speed, gearbox.

Formula Atlantic – Ralt

In 2006, Motorsports Market acquired a Ralt RT1 in 2006, chassis #5, which is the first Ralt Formula Atlantic car constructed. The 1,100 lb. monocoque chassis is powered by a 1600 c.c., 226 h.p. Cosworth BDD with a Hewland FT-400, five speed, gearbox. From 1975 through 1979, the car won the Macau Grand Prix, the Philipines Grand Prix, the Selangor Grand Prix, the Penang Grand Prix and the Brunei Grand Prix. The car has since been sold and restored to a high level by Virtuoso Performance in Hayward, CA, and is currently being campaigned in U.S. vintage races.

Formula Jr – Lotus

In 2009, Motorsports Market added a 1961 Lotus 20/22 Formula Junior, chassis number 20-J-935, originally raced out of Millerton, New York, the headquarters of Lotus East U.S. Racing.First raced at the 2009 CSRG Charity Challenge, the Lotus has finished on the podium in nearly every race.

Formula Jr – Lola

Since 2006, Art has raced a 1964 Lola Mk.5A Formula Junior, chassis number BRJ 59, driven by Bill Bradley to finish 5th in the 1963 Monaco Grand Prix and 1st in the Irish Championship that same year. Art raced the car in 2006 and 2007, finishing first or second in every race. In 2008, the 50th Anniversary of Formula Junior, he raced the car in numerous anniversary races including the Monterey Historics at Laguna Seca Raceway and the Wine Country Classic at Sonoma Raceway, claiming seven first and two second place finishes in nine races, and setting the Formula Junior track record at Sonoma Raceway, which still stands.

Jaguar Racing

The Jaguar Vintage Racing Team has won, or finished first in class, at every track they have raced, including Sebring, Watkins Glen, Road America Line Rock Park, Sonoma Raceway, California Speedway, Virginia International Raceway, Moroso, Summit Point and others. The historic racing program has been a tremendous success for Jaguar, their fans, and the vintage racing community, bringing sponsorship to numerous major vintage races and introducing thousands of new fans to the sport of vintage racing.

Jaguar Racing

In 2003, Jaguar launched the Jaguar Vintage Racing Team, becoming the first manufacturer to have its own vintage racing team, joining Jaguar’s Formula One and Trans Am teams. The father-son team of Bob and Art Hebert were chosen by manager Brian Donovan of Donovan Motorsports as the team’s first drivers. Bob, one of the most successful vintage racers in the U.S. with over 100 victories, drove a 1967 E-Type Roadster that had won an SCCA Championship in the late 1960s. Art drove a 1961 E-Type Roadster that had been raced throughout the Northeast in the 1960s.

National Championship

In 2014, Art put the Motorsports Market 1963 Lola Mk.5A in Victory Lane for the Inaugural Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. To date this is the largest vintage car race ever held in the U.S. with nearly 750 entries. In 2015, Art captured his second National Championship at Sonoma Raceway.

Formula Vintage

The Circuit of the Americas raceway in Austin, Texas is the first raceway in the United States built specifically to host Formula One, and has been the sole site of the U.S. Grand Prix since 2012. In 2013, the inaugural Formula Vintage race was held in conjunction with the U.S. Grand Prix for the first time, in front of 110,000 fans. Art placed first in the inaugural Formula Vintage race, driving a 1977 Chevron B39 Formula Atlantic. World champion Sebastian Vettle of Redbull Racing placed first in the Formula One race later that afternoon. The first-place winners received their trophies from racing legend Mario Andretti.
