History

This is an early SCCA Category II (tube frame) GT1 car. It was built by Wildhorse Motorsports in Minnesota, and originally raced by Wildhorse owner, Buck Roetman. You can see photos of Roetman in the Mustang at a 1982 SCCA National at Brainerd at Commicozzie Photos

By the late 1990’s the Mustang was being raced in GT1 by Richard Labarbera. Barbera would go on to capture the 1999 SCCA Watkins Glen June Sprints GT1 win.

In 2001, the Mustang was brought to the Pacific Northwest. Since then it has been run in both club and vintage events with CACC, ICSCC, SCCA, SOVREN, and SVRA.

The Mustang comes with its SCCA log books dating all the way back to 1982. The car also won the 1998 Eastern Motor Racing Association (“EMRA”) GT1 championship.

Description

The Mustang is powered by a 358 cubic inch Ford SVO V8 with 18 hours on it. That leaves about half of the engine’s life remaining. The engine has an A4 block and 9.2 deck. It has fully ported TFS Hi-Port heads and a Pro Systems 850 carburetor mounted on a Victor Jr intake. A Crane roller cam is installed along with T&D shaft rockers, a Bryant crank, and Carillo rods. Lubrication is by a Razor Dry Sump pump with a 4 gallon Peterson tank. Starting power is provided by a Tilton Super Starter. The engine generates 580 h.p. at 6,900 RPM.

The SVO’s powered is sent through a Tilton OT-II clutch and flywheel with hydraulic release bearing to a Jerico WC4-4 transmission with Renegate sequential shifter. The transmission has only 9 hours on it.  The power makes its way through the Jerico to a 4.11 limited slip full floating 9” rear end with a Winters Aluminum housing and Speedway hubs. Fuel is supplied by a 32 gallon ATL fuel cell.

The brakes are a PFC NASCAR short track braking system with monoblock calipers and V2 rotors. Pro-System brake blowers have been installed for optimal cooling. Damping is by Ohlins LMJ Double Adjustable shocks with external canisters. The KRC power steering system is mated to an APR 15:1 quick rack.

The Mustang will come with a Traqmate lap timer and data acquisition and helmet fresh air system.
