1978 Porsche 911 SC Targa RUF – #144
History
This is a matching numbers 1978 911 SC RUF Targa #144. The car was slated for German delivery according to the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity (in photo gallery below), is finished in its correct paint and interior colors and is fitted with several factory options. The current owner purchased the car from California, where the former owner stated the car was shipped from Germany to California and is only 1 of 2 RUF prepared Targas.
The current owner removed the original engine and rebuilt it to 3.2 liter displacement. The engine currently has MSD ignition and PMO carbs. While replacing the oil lines to the front mounted oil cooler in the air dam, the original RUF tag was discovered. The tag is pictured below.
The Targa is a classic sought after Porsche design. This is a well polished car and is reminiscent of the period by a renowned Porsche performance and customization specialist.
Description
A recent cylinder leak down test revealed leakage was under 4% across all 6 cylinders. The camshafts are determined to be of a Carrera RS or 911 S model. As mentioned above, the original Weber carburetors have been upgraded with a set of 50mm PMO carburetors, and an MSD ignition was added. The Porsche is currently fitted with Gotti wheels, but a set of period correct BBS wheels, date stamped in late 1977, is available.
