Car 41 – 1990 Swift DB5
Car 57 – 1985 Swift DB2
The DB5 was owned and raced in the ACRL series by Chris Ronson, team San Jose, in 1994.
The current owner’s family purchased the car and sent the tub to Coast Fabrication to make modifications to allow a 6 foot 5 inch 270 pound driver to fit in the car. The modifications included a taller roll hoop, a wider seat rib, cutouts in and behind the dash, and pedal extensions. The car was raced until 2012, it has been in storage since then.
–
The DB2 was owned and raced by Frank Arnold prior to being purchased by the current owner.
The current owner was involved with ‘Uncle Joe Benson‘, a Los Angeles radio disc jockey from KLOS Los Angeles, in the mid 1990’s. They put together a team consisting of the DB2, a Corvette dragster, and a Stock Car. Joe was able to secure Budweiser as a primary sponsor and all 3 cars were painted accordingly and raced by Joe.

The team went to numerous shows, parades, and displays. The DB2 went on to the runoffs in 92 and 93 with the car in Budweiser trim.
In 1994, the owner joined the ACRL team Los Angeles and had to repaint the car white, winning numerous races including the Molson Indy support race in Vancouver BC, and missing winning the championship by only 4 points that year.
“We continued to race the car with the Ford 2.0L engine, they called us the killer B Group at that time.”
In 1994, tub updates were done by Mark Bahner Engineering. Gusset stiffeners and a heavier floor pan were installed.
After ACRL the DB2 continued to race National and Regional races with great success, until its last race at Buttonwillow in 2001. It has been in storage since then.
