History

Chassis No. 913191. Engine No. 923818

This is a spectacular and meticulously constructed recreation of the iconic Alfa Romeo 6C 2500SS Berlinetta Aerodinamica, the celebrated aerodynamic coupé that competed at Le Mans in 1939 and the Mille Miglia in 1940. The original Aerodinamica, unfortunately, has been lost, perhaps a casualty of World War 2. However, thanks to the diligence and dedication of a handful of Alfa loyalists, and respected Alfa Romeo restoration specialists Historic and Vintage Restorations (“HVR”), today we have this hand crafted Superlegerra bodied recreation that is stunning, both on and off the track.

Chassis 913191, began life as a genuine Alfa Romeo 6C 2500. Records indicate that It was a Lungo chassis, fitted at that time with a five-passenger saloon body constructed by Alfa at their Portello factory. The car was then delivered new to Poland.

The Alfa was later discovered by Alfa Romeo 6C authority Raoul San Giorgi. San Giorgi then fitted the chassis with a period-correct 2.5-liter Super Sport dry-sump engine (no. 923818).

Thereafter, the Alfa project was purchased and imported to Australia in the late 1990s. In 2001,  it was entrusted to HVR, located near Melbourne, Australia to handle the restoration and transformation of the car into the Aerodinamica. Eight long years later emerged this magnificent recreation of the race car that Alfa Romeo and Touring built to compete at Le Mans and the Mille Miglia.

Since its completion, the Aerodinamica has been exhibited at the Motorclassica in 2019 and also featured in Australian Grand Prix demonstrations. The car was also the subject of a five page feature in The Automobile magazine, December, 2009.

In 2023 the car was consigned for sale in the U.S. There it was offered at the RM Sotheby’s Auction in Monterey, California. The car did not meet reserve and did not sell. It was later sold privately to the current owner.

Since then the Aerodinamica has been back on the track, doing what it was designed and built for, racing. The car has recently competed in historic races including at both Laguna Seca and Sonoma Raceway in 2025. It has also been shown at the Danville Concours d’Elegance

This Aerodinamica Coupé has to be seen in person to be truly appreciated. Photos and videos do not do it justice. It truly is spectacular. The body and paint remain in excellent condition. Any “bubbles” you may see in some of the close up photos are just from rain mist that was swirling about during the photo session.  The chassis has the patina of a genuine road and race car, a car that is actually used and enjoyed. The Alfa is also titled and registered.

The Areodynamica is currently ready for touring, rallies, car shows, concours, Alfa events, Cars & Coffee, elegant evenings out, and also historic racing. Your choice. All good ones.
