1958 Lotus XI Factory LeMans Team Car

Factory Team Lotus car driven by Alan Stacey and Tom Dixon at 1958 LeMans. Originally raced in 750 c.c. class. Later raced with 1100 Coventry Climax (currently in the car). Known history from new, and known to the Lotus XI Registry. Full restoration. CAMS papers and current FIA papers. For further details on the history, please see the photos section of this listing for the October, 2004, Vintage Racecar Journal & Market Report feature article on the car.

Most recently the Lotus won Best Vintage Racecar at the Hershey National Concours. It also won Best Vintage Racecar at Radnor Hunt.

Correct factory team “high tail” bodywork designed by Frank Costin for the team cars. The rear bodywork still shows signs of repairs made after Dickson spun the car at Tertre Rouge, hitting the back of the car, and beaching it in the sand. It took Dickson more than two hours to dig the Lotus free and get back to the pits.

Chassis 514 also still has its factory correct Morris live rear axle, and finned aluminum drum rear brakes. These were fitted to this car to reduce transmission losses at Le Mans. The car also has the later, more desirable, Lotus XI double A-arm front suspension, as well as Girling front disc brakes.

Included with the car is a spare set of racing wire wheels.

The Lotus is in excellent condition.
