1962 MGA Race Car

1955 EX182 Le Mans Tribute Car

Sold

History

This 1962 MGA was built as a tribute to the 1955, MGA EX182 Le Mans racers . The EX182 cars were alloy bodied pre-production race cars built by the MG factory to race at Le Mans. They did compete at Le Mans in 1955 with one of the EX182 cars finishing an astounding 12th place out of 60 entries.

This particular steel bodied MGA was raced in the early 1960’s. The car competed at Road America, Blackhawk Downs, Watkins Glen, and many other venues.

The MGA was discovered by Ed Lamantia, and later restored by him and MG specialists, Huffaker Motorsports in Sonoma, California. Ed wanted an MGA to race as a tribute to his father, who also raced an MGA in the 1960’s along with several other cars.

Since that resurrection, Ed went on to race the MGA at various historic events across the U.S., including Sonoma Raceway, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, the Monterey Historics Automobile races, etc. The MGA was a perennial front runner, and race winner. It also won the “Best Appearing and Performing Car” at the Sonoma Wine Country Classic.

The car was recently sold and raced sparingly by its new owner. A change in circumstances means that this beautiful and quick MGA has just become available.
