1965 Corvette Roadster

History

Research by a prior owner of the Corvette indicates the car was originally purchased in the mid-west. It was promptly stolen, but then recovered – all within the first six months. Upon recovery, the car was built into an SCCA race car. This occurred at the end of 1965 and into early 1966, Buck Smith purchased the car in 1966, and raced it in the Atlanta, Georgia area.

After Smith’s ownership, the car changed hands several times, but remained in the Atlanta area. In the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, the Corvette competed in SCCA Nationals in B-Production. The car was then purchased by gentleman from Michigan, who competed in SVRA events, winning two. The Corvette continued on its winning ways with the next owner, claiming vintage racing victories in every SVRA and HSR race in which he entered the car. The logbooks show over 20 races up through 1990, with multiple class wins, and first overall in Group 6 at the Atlanta Vintage GP in 1989. The car has been actively campaigned in vintage racing events by the current owner from 1994 through the present.

The car is registered with SVRA and has received an SVRA Medallion.

Description

oil pump.

The transmission is a Tex Racing, NASCAR spec., Muncie four speed, capable of handling 800 horsepower. The body is unmodified, with period correct wheels, and Hoosier tires. The Corvette is also equipped with a fire suppression system and ATL fuel cell.

As can be seen from the photos, this Corvette is immaculate. The annual inspection, testing, and rebuild of this car have just been completed. The engine and drive line are fresh and ready to go.

The current owner is acquiring a new vintage racer. As a result, he is willing to let this excellent example of a mid-sixties Corvette roadster race car go for a greatly discounted price. Compare the price of this car with similarly equipped and prepared mid-sixties Corvettes currently on the market. This car is priced thousands, even as much as $10,000, less than comparably equipped cars with real racing history.

This is a great deal, on a great car, at a great time in Corvette’s history. If you have ever thought about owning and racing a Corvette, now is the time to have one, and this is a great one to have at a great price. If not now, when?
