1966 Shelby GT350 Race Car w/matching numbers block
SFM 6S1226 - Rolex Monterey History
POA
History
The Iconic Shelby GT350 won SCCA Regional and National events across the U.S. starting in 1965. Their dominance led to the GT350 capturing the SCCA National B-Production Championship three years in a row, 1965, 1966, and 1967. These cars are the heirs of the famous Shelby Cobras, and part of the 1966 Shelby dynasty that saw Shelby’s GT40 win at Le Mans, breaking six years of Ferrari dominance. While Shelby American was winning in France, this particular GT350 was already roaring around the roads of Southern California, not far from its final assembly location at Shelby American in El Segundo, near LAX.
According to Shelby American Registry® reports, this Shelby, finished in Guardsman Blue with white Le Mans stripes, was shipped by Shelby American to High Performance Motors in El Segundo, California in March 1966. The car was delivered with a radio, a Detroit Locker rear axle, and a roll bar. The total invoice was $4,007.20.
The Shelby’s first owner is listed as Mr. Green of Atlas Auto Leasing in Beverly Hills. Subsequent owners included Shelby collector Craig Conley of Santee, California, and Jeffrey Conley of Tolland, Connecticut. Arthur Miller of Santa Barbara, California acquired the Shelby in 1998, and had the car converted to competition specs for historic racing. At that time a full roll cage was also installed.
Since then the car has been campaigned in historic racing including the Rolex Monterey Reunion.
Description
This GT350 is beautifully presented in its original Guardsman Blue with white Le Mans stripes and black interior.
The engine is a Dralle-built 289 with only two races since being refreshed. It produces approximately 400 h.p. at 6,000 RPM. The power is driven through the car’s four speed transmission. The Shelby retains its original disc brake front and rear drum brake configuration. The rear axle is a Detroit locker with limited slip. The wheels are the classic period Torque Thrust alloy wheels. Despite the racing modifications, much of the original interior remains as can be seen in the photos.
The GT350 will also come with its original matching numbers block. If you are a collector, this will be a valuable piece to either keep with the car, or to rebuild into a matching numbers 289 K-code HiPo engine.
