History

This Lola T160 was initially purchased in late 1967/early 1968 by John Crean, financial backer for James Garner’s American International Racing team “AIR”. Garner’s AIR team was already successfully racing Lola T70s including a second place overall at the 1969 24 Hours of Daytona.  So it was natural for them to acquire the next Lola, the T160, as their future race car. However, also in the mix was their interest in the growing Formula 5000 Series. Ultimately they opted for the F5000 series with a new Eagle Mk5 F5000 for Dave Jordan, and the T160 sat idle.

Thereafter the Lola was purchased by Ron Dahl in 1976. However, the Lola was still not actually raced until its next owner, Tony Seiniger, began racing the car in 1978 Ultimate Car Page. Seineger competed with the Lola in the SCCA A/SR sports racing category.

In 1981, Dan Martin bought the Lola and raced it in the Monterey Historics. In 1988 Lief Nielson bought the car and shipped it to Sweden where it was displayed at a museum. After its museum stint, the Lola was purchased by Jack Boxstrom and returned to the U.S. In 1993, Boxstrom sold the Lola to Harry Bytzek in Canada who raced it twice before selling it to American Reg Howell in 1997. Todd Glyer purchased the Lola from Howell in 2006, and raced the car with HMSA. Thereafter the Lola was owned and raced by Jack Chisenhall. In 2019, the Lola was sold via BringATrailer. Since then the Lola has been tested but not raced.

Summary:

This 1968 Lola T160 is one of the finest preserved original examples of an iconic Cam Am car. It comes with a portfolio of five folders documenting the car’s history, ownership chain, receipts for recent work performed, log book, period correspondence, and more. Also included are the amazing Petrolicious photos.

We have sold other, highly original, authentic, Can Am cars. However, because of this car’s limited use, it may well be the best preserved Can Am car, period. Also, unlike many Can Am cars, this one has a clear, fully documented history, including its initial famous AIR Team ownership. The car is also being offered at a price point well below any other authentic original Can Am cars.  It is an overall great value on a car from the heyday of horsepower, not to be repeated again.
