History

The early history for the Merlyn is currently unknown. There is no chassis tag present. The current owner purchased the car from Tom Long in Novato, California, in 1998.

The Merlyn has been raced with CSRG, HMSA, HSR West, SCCA vintage, SOVREN, MASTERS and VARA.

Description

The refreshed Ivey engine (2019) has approximately 26 hours on it. The gearbox has a Rhino case. It was rebuilt by Cypress Racing in 2007/8 and has approximately 50 hours on it.

The Merlyn was last torn down to its bare chassis and inspected in 2018. It was then reassmbled during the winter of 2019 with many new parts including brake and clutch lines; clutch slave and master cylinders; rear heim joints; rear axle bearings; flex couplings; drag struts and wheel studs.  The FIA harnesses are good through 2024. Electronic ignition was added last year.

The Merlyn also has a nearly new aluminum radiator. The custom made Fuel Safe cell is brand new. The car comes with original Dunlop steel wheels and American wheels.  The Super Sport wheels shown in the current pictures may be negotiated but are not included. The suspension remains unplated to avoid potential embrittlement issues.

This is another of the tested and proven Cross Flow Cup Formula Ford race cars. The Merlyn completed the 2022 Crossflow Cup season and is ready to go. It is a solid entry for Historic Formula Ford events across the U.S. and the U.K. The owner has moved to another class so the Merlyn needs a new home. The car is currently located in Nevada.
