1979 March Super Vee Project
Owned by 1983 Super Vee Champion Ed Pimm
$11,700
History
Reportedly only six races since new, five in period and one in 1996.
The first documented owner was Joseph S. Gimbel Jr. He owned the March from February 1979 to May 6, 1981 when he sold it to future Bosch Formula Super Vee Champion, Ed Pimm. Pimm retained the March until 12/20/1993. It is unclear when/if Pimm raced the March.
Thereafter the car wound up with Lee Follansbee. The car was later sold by the Follansbee estate to a subsequent owner and then onto the current owner. All recent owners are well known in the historic racing community.
At some point the original chassis tag was removed. However, there are numbers on a small tag on the roll bar, 79-120, and on the mag bulkhead castings. The car may have been originally purchased by Wilbur Bunce.
Description
The gearbox has been inspected through the oil fill hole in the top of the gearbox and the ring & pinion appear virtually new.
The tub is in remarkably good condition with one small dent on the floor near the front and a small weld repair on the front lower right corner.
The 1600 engine (long block) in the car was originally built by Zeitler. It has recently been installed to make the car a roller.
According to the receipts, the engine has new bearings, seals, new Maxspeeding H rods, a new Webcam camshaft and springs, and Wiesco pistons. Also with the engine are its 45DCOE Weber carbs and Bertils manifold. The engine still has the break-in lube on the camshaft, and comes with parts invoices dated 2019.
The March is complete less fuel cell, belts and header. It has 6″ and 8″ wheels. A pair of 10″ wheels will also come with the car. The March is outfitted with new Glow Shift instruments, and a fire system in a box. Also included are a couple of boxes with plumbing, wiring, starters, brake lines, and other items.
This is a great Wings & Slicks bang for the buck car, and a fun winter project for the do-it-yourselfer.
