1986 March 86C Indy Car – Ex Chip Ganassi

Sold

History

This March 86C was raced by Chip Gannasi at the 1986 Indianapolis 500. It was Ganassi’s last race as a driver, retiring from the cockpit to begin his highly successful career as a team owner and manager. Ganassi started 25th and finished 21st after his Cosworth DFX failed near the end of the race. The Cosworth has since been replaced with a 700+ h.p. Chevrolet small-block V8 with Hilborn fuel injection and Brodix heads for the American Indycar Series (“AIS”).

Description

The March is in running/operating condition. However it will need a thorough going through as it has not been on the track since 2010. All systems are operational. The car also has an on-board Gerhardt starter, and comes with four gear sets.

This car is an opportunity to own and run an historic Indy Car for less than half of what similar Cosworth powered cars are being offered for. It is much easier and inexpensive to maintain, and has its own on-board starter making it easy to run at vintage events throughout the U.S.
