1987 Apache S2000 (87S-07)
1992 SCCA MARRS Regional Championship
$22,500
History
The Apache Sports 2000’s were produced in the U.S. under license from March Engineering by Richard Morgan under the manufacturer Apache Cars LTD. Richard was a March driver in the early 1980’s and purchased 2 March 83S’s and used those cars for the basis of the 13 Apache race cars manufactured in 1986 (6) and 1987 (7). The Apache’s were minimally modified from the 1984 March Sports 2000 with the primary change being bodywork refinement, reverting the rear inner brakes to outer brakes, and incorporating various chassis stiffness improvements while maintaining the outboard suspension despite the migration to inboard suspension of the modern Sports 2000’s of the day.
Apache chassis 87S-07 (the car being referred to here) is the last Apache produced. The car was purchased sometime in 1989 by David Labovitz and campaigned during the 1990, 1991, and 1992 seasons in the SCCA Mid-Atlantic Road Racing Series (MARRS) Region. During a phone conversation with Mr. Labovitz he mentioned winning the Regional Championship with the car and after the 1992 season both he and his teammate’s car (87S-06) were sold to the same gentlemen who continued to campaign chassis 87S-06. There is a history gap from 1992 to the next entry in the SCCA logbook in the year of 2010 when Pete Pedley acquired ownership.
Pete and various drivers actively campaigned the car throughout the East Coast from 2010 to 2014 when the car went through a rebuild in 2015. Between 2016 and 2022 the car was offered for sale and raced occasionally until it was purchased by the current owners in early 2022. The car is actively campaigned in Southern California since its acquisition consitently running in the front of the running order often placing on the podium if not first in class including the 2024 VARA Class Championship.
