1988 Porsche 930 Turbo Factory”Flachbau” Slantnose Cab.
Sold
This is one of only 591 factory built “Flachbau” (Slant Nose) cabriolets built for the U.S. market in 1988.
The Slant Nose 930 Turbo design was lifted directly from the legendary Porsche 935 race car. The additional $23,000.00 +, M505 option got the new owner the aerodynamic sloped racing style front end with air dam, retractable headlamps, and air vents to increase engine and brake cooling.
The Slope Nose 930’s also came with the turbocharged 3.3 liter, air-cooled, engine with Bosch electronic fuel injection, and four speed manual transmission.
This particular Slope Nose was purchased from Al Holbert’s Porsche dealership in Pennsylvania in 1989. Thereafter it was shared between the current owner and his friend up to the present. There are only three total owners from new.
The Porsche is in excellent original condition. It has had no accidents. The paint is all original. The car has been kept indoors in a climate controlled environment ever since it was purchased in 1989. It comes with a clean CarFax as well.
The Porsche is used sparingly. It currently has 24,504 original miles, with a little over 6,000 miles having been driven since its most recent purchase by the current owner in 1989.
The car has been professionally maintained by the owner’s mechanic and is started several times per year to stay fresh. The car was last serviced in the fall of 2020. All service records from 1989 onward will come with the car.
The original owner had an aftermarket radio installed, along with aftermarket headlamps and a Borla exhaust in 1988/89. The original radio, headlamps, and exhaust are with the car and will be included in the sale.
There is no rust anywhere. The passenger side of the convertible top does have a small amount of fraying above the window.

Here is another similar, very low mileage, red factory Slant Nose Cabriolet that sold at Bonhams Auction in 2015.
Two more 930 Slope Nose Turbos were just up for sale on Bring A Trailer. The Silver Slope Nose sold in August, 2020, for $171,000.00. The Red Slope Nose, was bid up to $170,000.00 on 1/18/2021, and was a no sale. Another 930 Cabriolet sold in November for $149,000.00, but that was in the less desirable white with blue color combination, and nearly 40,000 miles. Note that this same car sold in 2016 at the Bonhams Quail auction for $132,000.00, and then it has 5,000 miles less than now. We think these cars have bottomed, and are on their way back up. Even in the current Covid market they are marching upward.
We recommend this very low production number, special edition, red Porsche 930 Turbo Cabriolet with its Slant Nose M505 option. We think it is a great choice, especially when considering where values have gone for other rare Porsches, especially those with factory racing-style features. The design was derived directly from the the iconic Porsche 935’s that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, The 24 Hours of Daytona, the Sebring 12 Hour, etc. That’s pretty great heritage.
