1996 Lola T96/70 Mexican F3000

The Lola T96/70 was a modified version of the Lola T96/50 used specifically for the 2 year Mexican Formula 3000 series (1996-1997.) The Lola T96/70 incorporated a Chrysler 3.5 liter engine as supplied by Chrysler and different tire size than the T96/50 that subsequently resulted in lower cost of operation and varying setups than the more expensive Buick V6 as run by Indy Lites. The short run series encompassed a total of 13 races, with 4 in 1996 and 9 in the final season, with races averaging 10-12 cars per race with fuller grids in the final season.
This Lola chassis HU08 race history is not currently researched so details are unknown. However, it is believed the car ran with a unique silver over orange livery during the championship series.
All Lola T96/70’s were powered by a Chrysler 3.5 liter engine producing 325 horsepower mated to a Hewland sequential 5-speed gearbox designed to European F3000 specifications that can reportedly withstand 500 horsepower. The engine has approximately 1.5 hours since complete rebuild by Nigel Mortimer with new block and heads. The car has undergone a complete inspection and service of major components. This car is perfect for the vintage/historic racer that doesn’t require a team to just start the car, simply plug in the jump battery and hit the button. The engine is a slightly modified street engine that will prove to be very reliable and does not have special warm-up or start procedures. Rev limit is 7000 rpm, well below the engine’s design limitations.
The cockpit is quite generous and will accommodate a larger driver. A PI Research data system is installed with dash including full documentation/software for the PI System, Engine Manual from Chrysler, and the Chassis Manual from Lola are included. Spares included are – a complete new floor and rear engine floor, upper and lower a-arms, various spring sets, Engine Control Unit, and a set of custom transport wheels. A custom jack is included. A new electric Lifeline fire system (FIA standards) and a new 2019 Sabelt restraint system (HANS compatible) are installed. This car is faster than a Formula Atlantic and less expensive to campaign. providing the best bang-for-buck in the vintage/historic formula class.
