2011 Lola B11/43 “Level 5” Spyder

2011 Sebring 12 Hour Winner

POA

History

This is chassis #HU04, the Ryan Hunter Reay, Luis Diaz, and  Scott Tucker LMP2 winner of the 2011 edition of the 12 Hours of Sebring. The Lola is one of a batch of three cars (two identical ‘Coupes’ and one B11/43’ ‘Spyder’) obtained by the Level 5 team for their multiple race programs in North America and Europe for the 2011 season.

This Spyder is believed to be the very last open topped LMP car constructed by Lola before the company shut its doors in 2012. Lola Cars was most recently purchased by Till Bechtolsheimer in 2022, with plans to return the firm to sports car racing as early as 2025, and to service their pre-existing historic sports cars and formula cars.

The Level 5 team raced their Lolas for only half the season before parking them, meaning the cars are remarkably low-mileage examples. The team’s Lolas were raced by the following:

  • Double IMSA Champion and multiple winner of the Daytona 24 Hours Joao Barbosa;
  • 1993 overall Le Mans 24 Hours winner and three time FIA GT Champion Christophe Bouchut;
  • Four-time ALMS/ IMSA class Champion and now convicted racketeer and Netflix star Scott Tucker.

The Level 5 team was campaigned, at Tuckers’ direction, with a “money-no-object” engineering approach. This B11/43 Spyder is a highly prepared but relatively lightly used car, and an excellent one to have.

Description

The Spyder was initially powered by, and raced in-period with, the 2.8 litre turbocharged Honda Performance Development V6. The car has since been re-engined by BBM Sport with an equally period-relevant normally aspirated Judd V8 to allow easier access to servicing, rebuild and spares support.

All suspension components have been crack tested and powder coated. The engine has zero hours, which will provide at least two full seasons of Masters Endurance Legends racing before an engine hours-rated rebuild would need to be considered.

Several other ‘lifed’ components have been replaced including the replacement of the fuel cell.
