Who can complete Continuing Education?
Continuing Education must be completed by a sole owner, partner, corporate officer, or managing member on record with the DMV. If you are a manager with a salesperson's license you will be asked to provide your salesperson's license number and expiration date when you register for the course.
How does the course work?
Our course highlights and explains the rules DMV requires dealers to be familiar with, plus current updates.
9 lessons, 9 multiple choice question quizzes. You cannot fail.
If you answer any question incorrectly, the course will direct you to where to find the right answer. You then can update your quiz and resubmit. When you finish, you will have learned all the key rules and updates.
Most auto dealers complete the course in less than one hour, including registration time. However, you can take as long as you like. After registration, you will be able to log in and out of your course at any time. Each lesson is saved as it is completed. There is no minimum, or maximum, time requirement.
What does it cost? When do I get my Certificate of Completion?
$49.00. Usps regular mail is included in the course price. When you register you will have the option to select Golden State Overnight Shipping (Mon-Fri) for $30.
We will deposit your original Continuing Education Certificate of Completion with your selected mailing option within 24 business hours of your course completion.
We will send you a confirmation email when we mail your certificate.
What are the Continuing Education requirements and exemptions?
Every two years, all used motor vehicle dealers must complete a Continuing Education program live, or on-line, that offers instruction on the subjects prescribed by the State of California and the Department of Motor Vehicles in order to maintain or renew that license. [V.C. §11704.5]
Exemptions - according to CA VEH Code 11704.5 :
1. Motorcycle-only dealers, and/or any employee of that dealer.
2. A wholesale only dealer who sells 49 or fewer vehicles in a year. This is measured by the number of vehicles you sold in the past year. This exemption must be re-applied for with each renewal.
3. Trailer-only dealers, and/or any employee of that dealer
To claim an exemption, you must file a Continuing Education Exemption Application (OL-257) form with the Occupational Licensing Renewal Unit. The Exemption Application must be filed before your current license expires, but not more than 90 days prior to the expiration of your license.
